Sheffield City Council Autism Festival – 15 to 17 April
The city is coming together for the first Sheffield Autism Festival part of World Autism Acceptance Month, see the programme here: Autism Festival Programme 2025.
There will be a series of events and activities spread over the three days hosted across various venues near the city centre in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University. The festival aims to empower, support and celebrate Autistic people, improve others’ understanding of autism, and inspire action to make Sheffield a more autism friendly city.
Events and activities have been organised sensitively for Autistic people, with a quiet room and limited numbers of people. Speaker events will also be recorded and made available online after the festival. Here is the speaker programme:
Tickets are limited and bookable via Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/o/sheffield-cares-104233364621
Sheffield Autistic Society will have a stall at the Town Hall from 10am til 4pm on Tuesday
Our Art Wellbeing Group will be exhibiting their work at the Stoddart Building, Sheffield Hallam University (10 til 3) each day so please come along and see us!
Sheffield Neurodivergent Mums Group
We are a small self-run group of Mothers looking to reach out to other neurodivergent Mums who would be interested in joining us. Our main focus is as a social group, where like-minded people can build friendships and offer support to one another.
It has become apparent from speaking with our currently quite small group that many neurodivergent mothers are facing loneliness and isolation. We feel that creating a regular group they feel they belong to, and a place where they can make connections, is essential to their mental well-being.
2nd Annual JOY Workshop
I am excited to share that we have set the date for the 2nd Annual JOY Workshop. This workshop delves into the everyday experiences of people with learning disabilities, mental health conditions and autistic people and explores how the transformative dynamics of joy can foster a greater sense of connectedness.
To continue from the previous year and connect with other projects happening in the area this year, our theme is JOY in the Community. We have exciting plans, such as putting together a monograph and organising an exhibition. We will send more details by the end of March or early April.
Date: 2 May 2025
Venue: Sheffield Hallam University, City Campus, Owen Building, Hallam View
Please find attached a save-the-date card and posters. Please share the invitation with your colleagues and clients. Registration is required due to limited places. Please send your name, job role and organisation to A.Z.Goldschmied@shu.ac.uk or respond to this email. All attendees will receive a certificate.
